The pixel war continues: Apple is developing 200-megapixel cameras for the new iPhones

Apple is actively testing a new high-resolution sensor—200 MP—which could become the basis for the iPhone’s main camera in the future, according to Android Authority, citing a reliable insider at Digital Chat Station.

Competitors are already using 200-megapixel sensor technology

200-megapixel sensors are nothing new in the world of mobile cameras— Samsung already produces smartphone models with these sensors, and Chinese manufacturers HONOR, vivo, and Xiaomi are also adopting this technology. Therefore, Apple clearly doesn’t want to fall behind its competitors and is also striving to equip future iPhone models with more advanced cameras.

High-resolution sensors allow you to capture high-quality photos and videos. At the same time, clarity and detail are preserved even when editing or significantly enlarging images.

Drawbacks of 200-megapixel cameras

However, 200-megapixel modules also have their drawbacks: for example, users of the Samsung Isocell HP3 have complained about shutter lag, which causes problems when photographing moving objects. Difficulties with light capture in low-light conditions have also been reported. However, this issue can be easily addressed during photo editing using image processing technologies.

So, only time will tell whether Apple will be able to overcome these shortcomings and introduce a truly innovative product.
