A base model with premium features: what surprises will the upcoming iPhone 17 have in store?

Apple’s developers have chosen to minimize the differences between the base and Pro models of their upcoming smartphones. As a result, as early as 2025, the standard iPhone 17 model will feature a 120 Hz display and a number of features from the Pro versions, according to Ross Young.

Larger display

According to Yang, who is known for his accurate leaks, the new base-model iPhone 17 will feature a larger display—6.27 inches—while its predecessors in the standard version had 6.1-inch screens. Thus, the screens of the base and Pro models of the iPhone 17 will be the same size.

High refresh rate and premium features

In addition to its larger size, the base model’s display will feature a 120 Hz refresh rate and ProMotion technology for the first time. This feature ensures smooth scrolling, a more advanced user interface, and an overall premium experience. It’s also known that the upcoming iPhone 17 will support an always-on display—constantly showing the time and notifications, even when the screen is locked.

The company is confident that this move will attract more users to the new entry-level model, especially those who aren’t looking for flagship cameras but want a high-quality display and modern features at a reasonable price.

We previously reported that discussions about the upcoming iPhone 17 Air—which is expected to feature an ultra-thin 5.5 mm body—continue to spread online. However, to achieve this record-breaking thinness, Apple’s developers will equip the smartphone with a battery capacity of less than 3,000 mAh.
