It seems the standoff between “Duty” and “Will” is heating up again. This time, the dispute was sparked by a message scrawled on the wall. “Will” took it as a direct threat, while “Duty” saw it as just another attempt to provoke a conflict. Unsurprisingly, the topic quickly became the subject of fresh conversations at the D4 bar.
Against this backdrop, GSC Game World decided to give stalkers yet another reason to declare their allegiances. The developers announced a faction slogan contest, in which anyone can support one of the sides—“Duty” or “Freedom.” The task is simple: come up with a short slogan that, in the participant’s opinion, best captures the spirit of their chosen faction.
Submissions should be posted in the appropriate channel on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Discord server. The best ideas will be rewarded with themed prizes—exclusive S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-themed figurines and keys to the upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope story expansion.
The contest itself is timed to coincide with the release of the new DLC. “Cost of Hope” will be released on August 20, 2026, and will continue the story of the conflict between “Duty” and “Freedom”. Players will gain access to previously inaccessible parts of the Zone, including the Iron Forest and the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
The developers promise that the new territories won’t just be backdrops for yet another series of shootouts. Large locations will feature their own hubs, and between them will be smaller zones where players can complete quests and discover additional activities. According to GSC Game World, it will take several dozen hours to fully complete the expansion.
Along with the DLC, a major Update 2.0 for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will also be released. The main technical innovation will be an upgrade to the more modern Unreal Engine 5. At the same time, the patch won’t be limited to optimization: it will bring new content and a number of other changes designed to make your time in the Zone more comfortable and interesting.
There will be no additional charge for the update—Update 2.0 will be free for all S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 owners. GSC Game World promises to share more information about “Cost of Hope” and this major patch in the coming weeks.
