GSC Game World has revealed details about Update 2.0, “Return to the Zone”

GSC Game World is preparing to significantly change the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 gameplay experience. On August 20 at 4:00 p.m. Kyiv time, the game will receive a major free update, Version 2.0 “Return to the Zone,” which will bring changes not only to the visuals but also to the atmosphere and daily life of the Zone, and will upgrade the game to a new engine version.

This time, the developers have focused on a much more comprehensive update to the game. The team has reworked and refined the engine, added a number of new mechanics that players have been eagerly awaiting, and at the same time left room for unexpected details. GSC Game World has already showcased some of the new features in a recent article, while players will be able to discover certain surprises immediately after the release.

The update will be available to all owners of the base game at no additional cost. It will be released on the same day as the “Cost of Hope” expansion, so on August 20, players will have several great reasons to return to the Zone.

What’s New in Update 2.0

The Zone’s visual aspects haven’t been overlooked. GSC Game World has revamped the lighting—the sun, shadows, and glare in open areas are now meant to look more natural, while the lighting in buildings and dungeons has become more realistic. At the same time, the developers have updated the landscape and vegetation, fixed hundreds of graphical glitches, and resolved issues with objects that could get stuck in mid-air.

Notable changes are also coming to A-Life. Life in the Zone will become less predictable: stalkers and mutants will move between locations more frequently and choose campfires, bus stops, and other spots to rest. At the same time, NPCs will be able to interact with each other even without the player’s presence. Separately, the team has fixed a number of issues with character behavior that previously prevented the Zone from feeling alive.

For fans of more challenging trials, a new “Custom Rules” mode will be available. It will allow you to manually adjust specific survival parameters. Additionally, the recently introduced “Master” and “Expedition” modes will remain in the game, designed for those who find the standard difficulty level insufficient.

With Update 2.0, three models of binoculars with different specifications will be added to the game, and the arsenal will be expanded to include the Arev, GP3A, SKP, and “Fora-230.” New sights will also be added, along with the ability to shoot with offset without a red dot sight.

Fog will become a full-fledged mechanic, affecting the visibility and audibility of stalkers and enemies. “Light rain” will also receive visual improvements. Bloodsuckers and Flesh will look different depending on the region of the Zone where the player encounters them.

GSC Game World, owned and funded by Maksym Krippa, continues preparations for the game’s release and the upcoming expansion. The studio is already running a countdown on social media, and there are only six days left until the DLC’s release.

So on August 20, be sure to clear your evening, tune in to “Stalker” Radio, and set off once again on an adventure in the Zone.
